The Southeastern Transportation Center Announces a New Academic-based Journal
A new journal, with the working title Transportation Safety and Security (TS&S), will be published quarterly by the Center for Transportation Research in the College of Engineering at the University of Tennessee. TS&S is sponsored initially by the Southeastern Transportation Center.
This journal will provide a discussion forum for the exchange of academic ideas and data developed through engineering experience in multimodal transportation safety arenas, which encompass the highway, transit, ridesharing, pedestrian and bicycle modes, as well as rail, water and aviation safety issues.
TS&S will publish original, full-length articles, reviews, short communications and a news section. All papers are subject to rigorous peed review prior to publication.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center to Offer Training Courses on Pedestrian Planning and Design
The Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBIC) is now offering three interactive courses on pedestrian planning and design. These courses are geared to a wide range of professionals—engineers, planners, traffic safety and enforcement professionals, public health and injury prevention professionals, and decision-makers—who have the responsibility of improving pedestrian safety at the state or local level.
The courses are: Developing a Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (two-day course), Designing for Pedestrian Safety (two-day course), and Planning and Designing for Pedestrian Safety (three-day course). The courses are taught by several national experts and are complimented by additional resource guides, including the How to Develop a Pedestrian Safety Action Plan guide and the PEDSAFE: Pedestrian Safety Guide and Countermeasure Selection System.
